liresius: (Japan ~ Fujisan at dawn)

I'm back and my muscles are sore! Skiing was great - except for the fact that my boots were too tight and I ended up feeling how those Chinese women of centuries past who had their feet bound, must have felt. Well, not quite. My own torture was self-imposed, and not a serious abuse of human rights. I will have to buy some new ones that fit.

we could get above it by taking the highest gondola. The views were beautiful, when it cleared in the afternoon. I didn't fall down! Not once! E said he was going to make me fall by the end of the day if I didn't do it myself, but I pleaded age and the fact that I couldn't afford any broken bones, that I had had enough already (5), so he took pity on me. I promised he could throw snowballs at me instead! But he forgot to at the end of the day! Ha!

We saw one of our previous students at the ski resort too, so E and I went off with him to the higher, more challenging runs while T and R did the 2 hour lesson for snowboarders. Such a coincidence - with Japan's millions, that we would run into someone we know. Our student gave us both tips too, but his English wasn't up to the task of detailed instructions in such a specific field. Oh, we fail, as teachers! LOL! Poor T couldn't get the hang of snowboarding so she gave up early. I didn't even try snowboarding this time. I have tried and failed before, so I knew I shouldn't put myself through the pain. *nods at self wisely*.

We had a lovely onsen (hot spring) after. There was a rotenburo (an outside pool) and it was just perfect, with the stars, freezing cold wind and the warmth of the water. Ooh! Bracing! Then dinner in the onsen dining room, where I had sansai soba (vegetables in buckwheat noodle soup).

It was so nice to go in T's auntie's car. Very roomy and comfy.

I think my camera battery is permanently on the way out. It wouldn't take photos, even though I had charged it. So I was disappointed for missing out on taking some snaps for the photo meme. I'll have to get a new one. I should go down to the e-store today and do that.

It IS magical. Skiing is wonderful when you're way out/up and there's just you, the snow, the sky and the view. It'
s so quiet. Too bad the Japanese spoil that oneness with nature and the elements, with constant DJ-ing and music through loud speakers piped from the main buildings below *g*.

Oh, no - shame about the intrusive music. :-(

Yeah! but I'm used to it, sorta *g*! The thing I don't get, well, I do, but I still don't really appreciate it, is how they interview people who are there skiing, e.g. people who originally met there a year ago, ended up getting married and now they're back to ski a year later. That is weird! But T says that kind of thing is lovely - it makes her feel happy, comfortable - I guess it's part of how they enforce the (all of Japan) group consciousness - whereas for us who cares about these total strangers that we'll never meet?? LOL! But I bespeak a lie, cus I met someone I knew there, myself! Hee!

Sounds like you had a fantastic time :-) I've never skied in my entire life and cannot see me starting now! - but my bro-in-law has 'instructors level' papers and my sister can ski very well :-)

It WAS great! And my muscles are easing up now too, so that's good! Yeah, I started at 32, so I figure I just got in, in time! Too late to master snowboarding though, which guarantees a lot of awkward falling. My ancient (heh!) bones can't take the punishment *g*

Oh, I know how you feel. I skated on our pond and I´ve got a very old pair of skates. And they are a bit smaller than I would need, so my fingers are kinda bruised. But it was worth it. :-)

And the hot spring must have been wonderful!

Oh skating! I haven't done that in many years. I used to really love it. Yeah I think with these hard shoes, size is everything *g*
