I read in the articles you'd linked to about how koalas are very social animals & the others who have been rescued have bonded together too. Bless their little button noses! ♥
Honestly, this story has been such a bright spot in this tragedy.

One day Mr B & I plan to visit Australia & we will see koalas for ourselves! :-)

Yes that long term bonding nature makes them even more appealing to us, I think, because we see something in common with ourselves.
