liresius: (Happy New Year ~ Mochi)
[personal profile] liresius
Nicked and adapted from [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl

Looking back, did you do more than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

I didn't set any real targets for art other than a general hope to improve at PS, and I think I did that, at least a little, but probably less than I'd hoped. But I did plunge into beta-ing for [livejournal.com profile] sonadorita, and just recently [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan, so that was a lot of fun! You guys are amazingly talented and it's such a pleasure to beta for you! Also I entered a few icontest challenges, mainly [livejournal.com profile] jf_icontest, so that wasn't something I'd predicted. Thank you mods! You are amazing and especially so for putting up with my technical incompetence/ignorance/slowness. Heh! Yes, I did finally work out (a couple of weeks later) why my icons never appeared on one occasion, due their being *stupidly* over the size limit *g*

What pairing/genre/fandom did you work in that you never would have predicted in January 2007? I didn't imagine getting so into watching Supernatural and making icons of Dean/Sam, but they're just so cute and pretty ... *looks helpless*

What's your favourite art of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Hmm, that's a tough one. I go through phases of things being my favourite. It's usually the most recent, so now in icons ... the one I made today . John and Rodney declaring their love to whoever is the boss *g* I'm especially pleased with getting their skin tones relatively matched up and much lighter at the same time.

In bigger art, definitely
Is Not My Time Is Not My Time

Did you take any creative risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?

Yep! I posted a drabble for the default icon challenge Tree Sojourn. I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] sga_art_santa I learned that I don't get the hive mind on art - the conceptual side of it, I think. LOL! I think I'm beyond help *g* because my stuff wasn't at all popular, and I think, I HOPE, it's not because it's technically ghastly! But I can grin about it still, and life goes on, ya know?

Do you have any fanfic or fanart goals for the New Year? I hate committing myself, but I really want to make something for a ficlet [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star wrote for me "An investigation of curved surfaces by John Sheppard" Other than that, nothing specific, although I'd like to try a few more lj comm challenges in art (I made some mcfleece icons but was too late *sobs*), and maybe screw up the energy and courage to post something that I write.

Art Most Under-appreciated by the Universe in My Opinion Hmm, nothing really except, well, I was a little disappointed that no-one seemed to get how supremely clever I was *g* in choosing a Japanese stone lantern to stand in for the DHD in the Reorient wall for [livejournal.com profile] sga_art_santa
Stone Lantern DHD.

Most Fun Art definitely this Boys' Night In ... "Boys' Night In".

I mean, Ronon cooking! With a rolling pin! Fun doesn't mean fluff here. The boys look moody and serious, but I just couldn't resist putting them in a gorgeous kitchen dressed in civvies.

Sexiest Icon Guh! I'll just to have to repeat myself "Guh!"

Cutest Icon or maybe this one Okey Dokey

"Holy crap, that's crap, even for you" art Hee! Well since I got my super duper new computer, high res screen and logicool laser mouse in June, I've been secretly, horribly embarrassed by iconart I made on my old computer and monitor that NEVER showed up the flaws in my smudging and manipping. LOL It all looked fine to ME! :-) God, why didn't you guys ever TELL me! Some friends YOU are! LOL! I can't tell you how horrified I was to discover that one of my previous default icons, a John/Rodney/Carson OT3, was bleeding all over the place! Yikes!

A technique that shifted my own perceptions how character can be expressed Well, that's easy ... juxtaposing colour and grey scale i.e.
Is Not My Time_grey scale_thumb and my favourite B&W manip is this S3 promo manip

Best gifts Actually there's no best gifts, because they are all the best! I hope I don't forget anyone ... [livejournal.com profile] causette for help with rotating headers and making PS available s You rock, girl!

[livejournal.com profile] berlinghoff79 for her wonderfully joyous birthday icon that first clued me in to the wonders of colour/greyscale contrasts Happy Birthday! s

for [livejournal.com profile] ailurophile6's sweetly sexy boxers!icon gift Boxers that she made for [livejournal.com profile] sonadorita's (thank you sweetie for sharin'!) birthday at [livejournal.com profile] fiestaparadories!

And last, but most definitely not least [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star for the gorgeously snuggly and contemplative "An investigation of curved surfaces by John Sheppard" ((s you darlin'))

And finally - my personal, favourite LJ post of the year is Feb 27th ~ Hubble Telescope 10 Most Popular Photos" I think it's appropriate at year's change *g* to ponder the wonders of life, the universe and everything!

I'm so happy that you're getting more confidence & posting more of your lovely art. I really liked your sga_art_santa entries, they definitely deserved more credit imo. I loved the wit you displayed.

I was so happy to write 'Curved Surfaces' for you.
*big hugs*
I'd love to see what it inspires you to create. ♥

Thank you! You really are the kindest and most generous person *hugs* and *more hugs*. I've noticed how incredibly even-handed you are with commenting (most recently in comms) ... giving something to all with such good grace.

"Curved Surfaces" was just beautiful. Very delicately done ... always a hallmark of your writing.

I've been fishing around looking for some nice caps, but I'm just not sure yet that I've found what I want (or know how to work with *g*) yet.

I do try to leave comments whenever I can because I know how happy they make me as an author or artist & I want to thank people for taking the time to make & share something, you know? I must admit I do get quite disheartened by how few comments some of my own things receive - it's difficult not to get a crisis of confidence sometimes.
Sorry - don't mean to sound such a moaner! You're always so very supportive & I really appreciate that.
*hugs*
Thank you again for your lovely artwork!
*is very excited about Curved Surfaces art*

No, I know exactly what you mean, about the happiness it creates, giving comments. But I am quite surprised to hear that you receive few comments sometimes. I have always thought your work was pretty popular and appreciated - I certainly appreciate it *hugs*, but then I probably have different benchmarks for comments i.e. much lower *g* for myself.

I'm incredibly grateful for any comments I receive & don't want to sound like I'm de-valuing them at all. But I suppose it just gets a bit disheartening when you put your heart & soul into something & it pretty much passes people by. I'm not an author/artist who you ever see being rec'ed or anything like that. I think that 'Coffee cups' perhaps drove that home to me. It's a story that I spent an incredible amount of time & thought on & I'm really happy with the result. But it's obviously not as good as I'd hoped - certainly judging by the response it received.
Sorry - I really don't want to sound like I'm whining (though I suppose I am - it's a bit like that final straw for the camel! *g*) & I'm so very, very grateful for the small group of people who do seem to like my stuff enough to comment though. ♥
Thank you again, especially - you're a wonderful friend.
*hugs*
