It was fun - not fantastically new in any way, but good teamy action, I thought.

That was my thought too... I enjoyed seeing the team together, and loved that Teyla had taken the time to learn about the Daedalus systems - though I was surprised that Ronon hadn't!

Loved how everything sort of depended on Rodney finding a way home for them, and he got shot!!!!!!

You're totally welcome re the zip! I feel like I haven't contributed anything in ages, so I just needed to do a little bit of something - a meagre effort, but I just started capping when the "black T of Rodney hotness" started showing up - I must be hot-wired that way *ggg*

Yeah I loved that Rodney was so central to their survival in this one, so I'm totally with you there! and woobie!Rodney is always a plus!

Yeah, that Teyla took that time to learn the Daedalus system really rocked! I also really liked her voice in the this ep - it seemes to have a calm ... a serenity that hasn't been all there before.

I enjoyed the episode, I like the way they let Rodney realized that reversing the jumps was the way to go, and that John had already mentioned it much earlier :)

This has been worrying/irritating me ever since Ronon was introduced. I still can't really like the character. To me he seems like an uncontrollable menace, and should never have been allowed to become a regualr part of the lead team. He always seems to act without thought, like a playground bully who resorts to violence when he can't get his way by just intimidation. Even when John tells him 'No' he does exactly what he wants without any thought of the consequences. O wish they would just get rid of the character altogether.... Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now!

RE Ronon- Yes!! Your description is right on the money. I've never liked the way they developed his character. They could have done much more with him since Sateda was clearly, a reasonably advanced society.

Personally, I think he has English issues and just doesn't want to admit it. (Yes, I know TPTB don't think deeply enough to come up with something like that on their own; this is just my way of making it all okay in my head.)

We know from "Coup d'Etat" that the Stargate doesn't magically imbue people with translation skills since Ronon was the only one who could read the languages on the paper -- and he could read several of them. We also know from "Runner" and "Sateda" that Sateda was at least at a WWII level of development if not more.

Therefore, I think it's reasonable to conclude that what we call English was programmed by the Ancients to develop on every world, but that it still has to be learned like any other language. If the Satedans only used English with outsiders, that would explain why Ronon's working vocabulary is good, but whenever the science stuff gets going or people start talking really fast ("Doppleganger"), he's lost.

Ronon already knows most of Atlantis thinks he's a "caveman" and he's on a team with Rodney, so I can understand why he wouldn't want to reveal that sort of weakness -- a weakness that would instantly show up if anyone tried to teach him technology.

As for his temper... I just try to remember that it's stuff like that that keeps characters from being Mary Sams. I mean, Sues. Mary Sues. ~.^

That's a good point.

I was really uncomfortable with the temper tantrum he had because he came across as childish and immature, and that's a weakness. I think it's okay for characters to be a loose cannon sometimes and for characters to have weaknesses, because that makes them interesting, but this particular weakness is really unattractive to me.
