I'm in the middle of watching Top Gear's Winter special - The Toyota versus sledge race to the North pole and Jeremy says, "Meanwhile, James is breaking out the "Elevenses" (chocolate)"

My question is ... is "Elevenses" strictly Jeremy just having fun reffing LotR, or has "Elevenses" always been part of English "meals" culture? I always thought it was just Tolkien adding in another meal, cos we all know what food aficionados the hobbits are, but maybe ... no?

It was! I couldn't believe the car actually won!

The .avi file I had was so huge though, the video didn't keep time with the audio :(

And I should thank you, because it was your recent posts about TG that got me dl-ing a couple of seasons to watch. I'd watched a few eps many years ago, but at the time just thought Garrrgh! Petrolheads! *g*

You're right though! Those boys are so funny. I laughed my arse off at their antics, teasing and ripostes. I especially loved the African trip and the little car that would!

YES!!! They are just so funny! XD I'm not really a car buff but I really enjoy watching the show. I often laugh my ass of cause they are so funny. And while I'm laughing, I'm also learning stuff and my brother is so happy that I'm getting interest in cars :P I come from a huge car fanatical family and now I can finally join in conversations a bit :P

I've never been so much into cars, but in my youth I was a biker chick - had a 650cc Kawasaki (4 cylinder) (Man, that bike was fast!) so I knew a bit about engines, mechanics and could do the basics myself.

But the other half of my youth was spent being an environmentally conscious alternative .. heh! I've been divided, to say the least.

But back to cars, TG ... I do like the learning aspect because it pings me back to those touring times, and I've had some really fun phone conversations with my son because of TG in the last month, so yeah I totally know what you mean about identifying with family members - common ground with the men in your life.

Depending on how long ago it was, you may have been watching 'old' Top Gear. The present-day format started in 2002, and it's this version that is insanely popular - has a worldwide audience of 350 million and I believe is the world's most watched TV programme (special events such as the World Cup, Olympics etc excepted).

Me, I love it. *g*

Oh, did you know that there's Top Gear slash out there...?

Yes, definitely sounds like I was watching the 'old' TG. I think the eps I watched were waaay back in the early or mid '90s.

and it's this version that is insanely popular and I can see why *g*

and I believe is the world's most watched TV programme I had no idea it was so popular! *boggles*

OMG! Top Gear slash! No, I didn't know! I'll have to search that interest! (not that I get much into RP slash, but it might be interesting to take a look.

Now I need a Top Gear icon LOL!
