Well, I've decided to move to Nagoya. It's more expensive, but I'm sick to death of this dive I'm living in. Sure the rent is great, but I sooo badly need a change to lift my spirits. Tho, the main reason for moving is to cut down on the commuting time. I'm just getting totally worn down by it. Seven years is enough. The only bad thing about the decision is that as soon as I decide to move I finally get some work in this city (Gifu). So I'll have to commute back here at least once a week. But this lioness' share (4 out of 5) days of the work is definitely in Nagoya so it still makes sense to move.
that I can afford it - not to get a palace mind, but something even slighly better is going to cost me at least double what I pay here. As they say, "Location, location, location!" So, tomorrow and on Monday, I've set up appointments to look at some apartments. Fingers crossed I'll have some good ones to choose from!
I've got two more days of work at universities this year starting in April and something pretty good in store for 2009, but that's all hugely sekkrit at the mo ... Funny though, my main job - the two year college has a much better pay rate than the 2 fully fledged universities that I've scored new work at this year.
In other news ... The Australian Parliament has finally said " Sorry!" About bloody time!
Also, I'm rather pleased with my latest (first) popart icon. Always good to learn a bit more about PS. *points left* I bet you all can guess who is the silhouette *g*

Date: 2008-02-13 11:55 am (UTC)Thank you re the icon - it was fun learning about using layer masks. The colours turned out nice, but that's always hit and miss with me *g*

Date: 2008-02-13 11:42 am (UTC)Nagoya looks nice? LOL! Not what I would have said as it's the Detroit of Japan, but it's amazing what photos don't show *g* ... But it's central and that's what I want. *nods*
Bluespirit's icon above in this post shows the cap I used. Hairy chested Joe wrapping himself round a pole!

Date: 2008-02-13 01:03 pm (UTC)I have a dream about moving myself - but lots of things have to happen first. I do envy you all the excitement of it!

Date: 2008-02-13 03:30 pm (UTC)That's the crux of the matter ... and I know it's doing that to me. I've been so cautious about moving, despite the fact that there hasn't been much to keep me here in Gifu, apart from the rent and the sense of green/trees/nature around me. So I figure, having 7 years of unbelievably cheap rent ($90/week)under my belt I can really afford to make that change - I hate to spend more than I know I can live on - I pride myself on being economical and living a basic subsistence-y lifestyle, but there comes a point in one's life where needing that slight rise in standard of living becomes more important than continuing with conditions you know you can survive.
Yeah, if I find a place, I will be really excited about buying some new furnishings - curtains and lovely bookcases and ... a bed! (I sleep on a futon at the moment) and a sofa .. that latter is something I don't have and desperately want!
Oh, I'd love to know what you are thinking about re your dreams about moving. I know I still owe you an email ... I haven't forgotten .. I've been kind of full up with keeping on top of the job scene and simultaneously despondent about life in general and I keep telling myself to write, but I want to write with good things in a positive frame of mind, so I have to get my head right.

Date: 2008-02-13 09:01 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry to hear you're despondent though. I assumed you were busy in fandom and not down. I do sympathise having struggled myself over the past year or so. It's no fun at all and I totally understand re the issue of being in a positive frame of mind. Sometimes I just can't interact at all when I'm down for some reason.
As for my plans - I'll save them for private email as they're quite personal!

Date: 2008-02-15 12:06 am (UTC)Great to hear your good news-fingers crossed that it all works out OK.
Commuting is Hell, wherever you're doing it so that will be an improvement if you can ditch that. Surely the reduction in transport costs will help to pay for the hopefully nice new appartment?
And yes, there does come a time when you want a bit more than the bare bones approach to your home.
All the best, Miso :)

Date: 2008-02-15 01:42 am (UTC)Thanks re the moving news. Actually transportation is almost always paid by the companies/schools, in Japan, so sadly, no savings for me are involved, except in time of course, which is the important one for me.
