I have been hibernating for the last 5 days, so not much chance of catching up on the flist. If you've posted anything fic-cy, art-y or otherwise important do let me know! Otherwise I've still got the secret santa fic set as a homepage for instant reading pleasure. I'm barely one third of the way through the list though.
Uh, it's been a Brit Classics Romantic Escapism kind of hibernate. I have only one day left of Holiday/Hibernation.
I have dl-ed and watched "Pride and Prejudice" the film - with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen (the latter from Spooks)
... also the BBC series with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, which is much truer to the book (oh, I read that too at last ... on line, between watching the film and the series! That chewed up a day).
I did rather like some aspects of the film, even though the series is, no doubt, much more detailed and truer to the era and novel. I liked Donald Sutherland's father - he was wicked and funny and quite dissipated in character and I thought that was truer to the book. I also like the rundown state of the house in the film and the more earthy connection that Lizzie had with walking and the country. I liked how they pitched her between "gentleman's daughter" and peasant lifestyle in the film. It allowed a rawer passion to come through that I didn't pick up on so much in the series, which was much more "buttoned up". The family appeared to be more well-to-do and keeping up appearances in the series and the ringlets hairstyle and bosom-y fashions and the mother's shrillness drove me crazy *g*. Probably the last would be quite okay watching it over 6 weeks, but I watched them all back to back, so her voice really began to grate! LOL! The acting was wonderful though! I did love the series for all the detail - just superb!
Also watched "Mansfield Park" (with Billy Piper) and "Emma". Also the 1939 and 1993 versions of "Wuthering Heights". My torrent for the 1954 version isn't doing nothin'!
I liked P&P best, of course!
