... so many of them! I've done the move. It's been a stressful week coping with a feeling of dislocation and not having everything in its place, indeed not having furniture either! (not to even count the hectic work schedule).

I wasn't very excited about moving from Gifu - it was a decision based on what's practical for my work life rather than from the heart and quality of life, so I've been doubting myself for a while. It feels cramped where I am compared to Gifu (not the apartment - that's quite a lot bigger and with more mod cons (shower! western toilet!)! I mean the neighbourhood.) ... people don't seem to smile as easily - because the area I've moved to is a transport hub, more highly populated and full of strangers passing through.

The physical moving went okay except my air con got bashed around a bit and the vanes on the outside part are a bit damaged in spots. The air conditioner wouldn't start once installed because the wall socket in the apartment is defective! I was pretty stressed about that for a while because I thought the air con installation guy was perhaps spinning me a line about why it wouldn't work and the company was maybe going to cheat me when I'd paid top dollar for a guaranteed installation, but no ... as it turns out the air con actually does work (I tested it myself using an extension cord into another wall socket), so the installation work he did was good and the problem does seem to be in the wall, not the air con. Now I just have to convince the landlord it really is an issue they are responsible for (and it's quite rare for a wall socket not to work, so I can believe their scepticism too).

It took me a few days to get a new hose for the washing machine and be able to wash, so that was stressing me for a bit too, plus I had to work out how to raise the machine so the lower pipe didn't kink, but I cleverly sorted that out with some squares of polystyrene foam mat - I've used the rest as a raised standing board for the still grotty outside verandah.

I finally got back on line tonight and set up my new fibre optic connection! Yay! Pages load really fast and 301 emails (mostly spam) downloaded in about 7 seconds flat! My only problem with the computer is that I seem to have screwed up the cables to give me sound :-( and I so carefully labelled everything when I pulled it all apart to box up, so I'd be able to put everything back in the right place. I can't help thinking I'm missing a cable or have connected it wrongly! Oh woe!

I've decided to splurge on a berber carpet for one room. I've pretty much picked it out and will go tomorrow to order it and give the shop the measurements. It's going to cost me a month's salary, but carpets are really important for the feel of a room and I want to spend a lot of time in that room and use it for yoga, so ... plus I need to get it before I start putting furniture in there.

There's still a million things to do, but I guess it's going as well as can be expected so far. Sorry I've missed everyone's news on the flist! Let me know of anything important!
