The Sydney Festival has just been on and my Mum went to see the stage adaptation of the May Gibbs Australian children's classic "Snugglepot and Cuddlepie". Mum said it was fabulous, and it's made me homesick for things Australian. So I've changed the look of my journal.
I don't suppose it will make sense to anyone who isn't Australian or hasn't read the book, but I had fun trying to fit it to what I remember of the book and aspects of the Australian Aboriginal Dreaming etc. And yes, I know that S & C are twin brothers, but I couldn't help but make the parallel of their adventures through the Bush, with John and Rodney in Space, so that makes me Ragged Blossom and I guess the Wraith are the wicked Banksia Men and the occasional Queen is Mrs. Red Belly Blacksnake. The Babies in the icon are actually Wattle Blossom babies though.
I have/had a really old copy of the book from my childhood and I rang my girlfriend last night and asked her to hunt it out of my ex-house where all my stuff is still stored. I hope none of the previous renters have nicked it! Apparently it's valuable now especially the copies with the reddish-brown sepia coloured text, which mine is. That colour is in the links here, a very Australian landscape colour - as are all the colours I've picked.
Here's the link for a quick glimpse of the production on YouTube. Most of it is behind the scenes but you can see a snippet of the show at the beginning and in a couple of places in the clip On YouTube
Newer edition of the book cover *pointsatimage*
In other news, my Mum just told me my uncle's wife has just died - massive heart attack. It was very quick. Poor Uncle Bill. I don't know how he's going to cope with a 91 year old very demanding mother-in-law now, with Bettina gone. And her kids from her first marriage are apparently very avaricious and Mum expects they will do some souveniring when they come up from Sydney. How awful for him, if they do.
