SGA Farewell!

Well, it's finished. It's had its highs and lows and I'm going to miss the boys, that's for sure, but not so much what the PTB do with it, so the boys are safe now ... untouchable, except for what OUR porny little minds will do with them *g* and not counting any movies, of course. For that, I'm relieved, as it really did hit some bad patches in S5.

Goodbye Show!John and Rodney! Live long and prosper in fandom!

Here's a quick manippy-pic of a couple of my favourite faces from Echoes.

Beautiful manip - thank you! I haven't seen the last ep yet but I'm bracing myself. It's all too sad :-(

Yeah, this is the first show I've followed all the way through with fandom online, so it's a bit sad, and I'll be sad not see the boys anymore, but it's probably just as well - the writing and stories were pretty patchy, with only a couple of really good ones each season. I wish they'd done better character exploration on a more regular basis.

Yeah the last one .. I won't spoil you, but yeah ...

Thank you re the manip. I wanted them happy together and they got up to such boyishly cute behaviour in Echoes!

Yeah, character exploration was never something they excelled at, sadly. The show had so much potential and the actors were excellent but it always seemed to promise more than it delivered. It was also hard to read the blogs of people like Joe Mallozzi and realise what utter knobs he and his cohorts were. Sigh. No wonder the show never flew the way it had the potential to with them doing so much of the writing.

I don't like it when canons close - it's really much more fun to get into fandoms where canons are already closed :o/

I guess 5 years is a pretty good run, considering ...

Although I'm not sure I understand what you're saying above?

[identity profile] skuf.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Just that when you come into a fandom with a closed canon, you don't have to watch it go down the drain as it happens :o)

Oh, d'oh! Yes, sorry it's my day for being dense. Yeah, I completely agree that it's better that we don't have to watch it go down the drain in real time, but it is a lot of fun to share new eps with a community in real time too. So much squee factor there *g*

I've never seen the show, but I have many SGA friends and I really felt for you all when it was cancelled - but as you say at least TPTB can't mess things up anymore.

May fandom have a long and happy time now.

This is a beautiful manip.

Thank you for your sympathy and re the manip! I guess the good point is I can concentrate more on NCIS now! *g*

May fandom have a long and happy time now. *nods* I hope they go on in the fandom for a while yet!

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say (heretic as it is to do so) I long for the day NCIS becomes closed canon.

Don't get me wrong, I love it (well you know that) but . . . It's the first non-closed canon fandom I've ever been in and I will not by choice get into another one (not that I 'chose' this one). It is too exhausting, not to mention the way TPTB mess us around - and we won't talk about how they can't keep their own timeline consistent.

It'll be interesting to see how SGA and other shows continue fandom-wise. Has the face of fandom changed? Will it drift on for a year or so and then dwindle away? Can they survive like the 'older' shows (Starsky & Hutch, The Professionals, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Star Trek) survive and thrive?

LOL! I know exactly what you mean! especially about the "choosing" *g*

But yeah, I agree it can be exhausting and a little bit frightening when TPTB treat much loved characters very cavalierly.

I wonder too about SGA's future, I suspect it will go on for quite a while at the least. This is a fandom that is quite insane - J/R flower porn, for God's sake. Bless! So totally cracked, but I can guess we won't want to let go for a bit yet.

I think most people do :-0

Oh, yes! Very much so.

That's really good to hear.
